What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an integral part of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Traditional Chinese Medicine or TCM is a comprehensive system of healing that has evolved over thousands of years throughout China. TCM not only treats the symptom but the root cause of disease; which is determined through an in depth diagnosis of body, mind and emotional health.

Is it safe?

This clinic uses only disposable, sterile needles that are made of surgical steel and manufactured in Germany. These needles are so fine that they are only slightly thicker than a human hair. An experienced acupuncturist is able to make each visit comfortable and relaxing.

How far do the needles go in?

It depends on the part of the body that we're working on.  Points in more muscular areas such as the thigh go deeper than points in the wrist. Typically a needle goes in ¼ of and inch to ½ an inch.

How do I know my acupuncturist is qualified?

The practice of acupuncture and herbal medicine in this province is controlled by the CTCMA, a governing body that falls under the Health Act of B.C. You can check www.ctcma.bc.ca to  confirm the up to date registration of  your acupuncturist.  This registration license will be displayed in the office of your acupuncturist.

Also on display will be a diploma showing that your acupuncturist has graduated from an accredited college of Traditional Chinese Medicine.  An acupucntrist must attend three to five years of training at a liscensed college of Chinese medicine, in addition to a minimum of two years of university covering such courses as anatomy and physiology.

What can acupuncture treat?

Gynecology is a focus of this clinic.  Patients seek treatment for relief from painful periods, hormone related headaches, PMS, endometriosis, PCOS and infertility.  Menopausal concerns such as hot flashes, night sweats, and restlessness are also treated.

Men and women are welcom to seek treatment for injuries, back pain, migrane headaches, stress, insomnia, chronic pain and much more.  If you have a concern and are wondering if acupuncture, herbal medicine or massage therapy can help, please contact us This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Is it covered by my extended health plan?

Most extended health plans cover acupuncture and registered massage therapy. Please contact your employer or extended health provider to find out about your coverage.
I heard it was covered by MSP?
Yes, for B.C. residents who qualify for premium assistance (an income of $28,000 or less) MSP will cover $23 per visit to a registered acupuncturist or registered massage therapist, to a maximum of 10 visits per calendar year.  We will complete all the necessary paperwork for you.

How will I feel after acupuncture?

Usually rather relaxed and calm. Occasionally you may feel tired for a few hours if the treatment has been particularly strong.

How many treatments will I need?

This varies between patients. Certainly a course of treatment is required, one off miracle cures are unusual! We recommend a minimum of 4 treatments, but the longer you've had an illness, the deeper it becomes lodged inside your body, and therefore takes longer to treat.  You should notice results after the first treatment, which get better and better with consecutive visits.
